Those who have experienced

 this trail will understand the

vision and commitment of Mary, Lady

Towneley, in whose honour it is named,

and the affection we at Towneley

 Trailriding feel for our stunning

landscape and the visitors it has brought

 us.

In February 2011 Matt Baker from BBC1's Countryfile programme came and rode a section of the Mary Towneley Loop.

The Countryfile edition featured  the ancient routes that at one time linked upland communities for trade, and how they are being re-opened for tourists. With the development of canal, road and rail the old ways fell out of use. It was the vision of Mary, Lady Towneley to open up these historic routes for riders, cyclists and walkers and Cosi Towneley, her daughter, described her mother's passion. It became the job of Natural England to bring this vision to fruition.  Julie Thompson, Natural England's representative, talked about the legal and practical obstacles they have faced, and how much has been achieved. Peers Clough Farm featured as a place to stay  if riding the Mary Towneley Loop on your own horse.

Not content with one TV presenter, Towneley Trailriding also played host to Yvette Fielding (Blue Peter, Most Haunted) who rode the Loop with friends Morag and Victoria in the summer.

They said "FANTASTIC! BE BACK AGAIN!!

We hope you, too, can bring your own horse to ride the Loop in this special anniversary year.                                             If you can't please visit
